Description:

Constructed with a tan cloth exterior and golden tan rayon interior. The Tropical Pattern cap bears a close resemblance to the standard field cap, though in deference to the expected heat the "ear flaps" are just a stitched decoration and a pair of olive green painted brass vent grommets are installed on each side. The brim is extended to help control glare from the sun. The cap eagle and cockade are in separate patches, with the golden eagle cleanly hand-stitched just below the crown and the machine embroidered cockade directly below the eagle. On the interior lining is the size "57 1/2" and a maker's mark "CHAPELIERE/PARISIENNE/PARIS". Originally seen as easy duty before French resistance and British commando raids ramped up, German units were often assigned to the occupied regions of France as a form of rest and recuperation, and took advantage of the fixed exchange rate of 1 Reichmark to 20 Francs (and strict punishments for charging different rates to Frenchmen and Germans) to effectively loot French merchants at will, with Paris being a particularly prized destination for the soldiers who would later be sent to Africa or the Eastern Front.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with a few very minor stains and handling marks overall. Both patches are solidly attached, and the brim shows a smooth curve with no visible creases. The internal markings are slightly worn, but remain legible.
