This is a very fine example of DWM first issue Model 1908 Military Luger pistol that was manufactured in 1908. This example was manufactured in the first block of serial numbers and does not have a letter suffix on the serial number. These first series Luger were the first military contract Luger which eventually evolved into the 1914 Military version. These have three distinguishing features: 1) they were originally made without the hold-open device, 2) they don't have the stock lug attachment on the lower frame area and 3) they had military proofmarks and most were dated from 1908-13. The chamber area on this example is undated which is correct for a first issue Luger. It has the DWM markings on the front toggle with the military proofs on the left side of the barrel extension (which is correct for the first issue 1908 Lugers) and some of the various other parts. The full serial number "531" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and frame, with the last two digits "31" on the various other parts. The front grip strap is marked "120.R.M.G.20". It is correctly marked with "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" on the extractor and safety area and it is fitted with checkered walnut grips and a nickel plated magazine with a wooden base that is stamped with only "531".

Excellent with 97% of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear, cold blue on the muzzle and thinning on the refinished grip straps and side plate. The smaller parts retains 98% of their restrawed colors overall with only minor edge wear. The grips are in fine condition with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides, with some minor nicks and handling marks with the right side showing minor little pin-point indents on the lower section. Mechanically excellent. A very rare and desirable early DWM model 1908 first issue Luger.
