Description:

Constructed from blue/gray wool overall with concealed front buttons. The tunic is outfitted with a line of braided silver rope around the collar, with similar bordering around the edges of the "single eagle" rank lapel tabs, and the silver wire shoulder boards are equipped with white felt backing and bright buttons. With a silver bullion Luftwaffe eagle on the right breast, possibly hand stitched. The interior pockets and lining are a mixture of gray cloth and gray rayon, with the left breast pocket bearing the Luftwaffe inventory marking of "L.B.A.B1.42" and "LF 35" next to the size marking. Size Markings: "39 42/90/60 59". The cap is constructed of similar material, with a very thin band of silver wire trim around the crown, a set of separate machine stitched Luftwaffe eagle and cockade patches on the front, two textured blue/gray painted alloy buttons on the earflaps, and a dark gray interior lining with no visible maker's marks. The thin piping, the lack of maker's marks, and the eagle (Italian production and color) are typical of so many pieces produced in Italian workshops for the Germans. The Division HG spent a great deal of time in Italy, going there to rebuild after the evacuation in Tunisia, fighting the Allied invasion of Sicily, participating in the disarmament of Italian forces after they deposed Mussolini and tried to make a separate peace with the Allies, as well as resisting the Allied push up the peninsula. Consignor indicates piece is from the George Peterson collection.

Rating Definition:

Good overall. Both items show staining consistent with active wear, with the cap in particular showing heavy sweat staining and the lining of the tunic showing a number of rust colored brown spots. A few minor holes are present in the material, and the majority of the stitching is solid.
