Description:

Introduced as a wartime simplification of the Stahlhelm, the Model 42 eliminated the rolled lower edges in favor of a light outward flaring. This particular helmet is finished in a factory dark green paint, with the single Luftwaffe eagle decal on the left side, and fitted with a brown leather chinstrap marked "RBNr.0/1151/0005" and aluminum buckle, and brown leather webbing ink stamped "59" on the exterior and "40-2", "BR(sic) 0/1202/2151" and "SM" on the inside rear. Inside the brim, the helmet is stamped "ET66" and "1830", along with the white paint marking "R.Schaffer II./PZ.RGT.HG"; this is a rare identified Hermann Goering marked helmet. Reformed after combat in Tunisia in 1943, and then was combined with another Hermann Goering named unit to form the Fallschirm-Panzerkorps Hermann Goering.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The helmet shows some scuffing, exposing the aged brown underlying steel, with a few small areas of loss on the decal. The leather shows light cracking and stains appropriate to age, with both the webbing and chinstrap remaining supple. The paint markings remain clear, with a bit of loss around the "II".
