Description:

This is a fine example of a fully automatic, remanufactured MP-40 submachine gun by Charles Erb. He is one of the better know class 2 manufacturers who used original WWII German MP-40 parts kits and assembled them onto one of his newly manufactured tube receivers. These receiver tubes were actually drawn over a steel mandrel to give them the outer shape like the original WWII MP40. The left rear area of the tube is stamped: "Charles Erb/Fredricktown/Penn USA". The original MP-40 SMG was an excellent wartime design that utilized steel stampings combined with limited machined parts to increase manufacturing speed and reduce time and cost. They fire from an open bolt and are chambered in the very popular 9mm Parabellum (Luger) cartridge. This example used nice set of original WWII parts with the rear receiver end cap stamped: "MP40/bnz/42" over serial number 2893c. The various parts all have matching visible serial numbers (2893 or 893) that includes the lower trigger housing and folding stock assembly, the barrel/front sight, rear sight, and firing pin assembly. The bolt is etched with serial number "5999" and the top front section of the receiver tube has been stamped "493/e". It has dark red bakelite lower receiver cover and grip panels. The barrel resting bar is a post war stamped replacement part that is numbered "140". This MP40 is complete with three extra magazine; two with Nazi markings and one unmarked. The MP40 and magazines are all housed in a really neat wooden chest. The custom chest has been built to resembles a WWII German ammunition box, showing a flat gray painted exterior (similar to the WWII colors) with a large "Nazi Eagle proof/Machinenpistole 40" stenciled on the lid. The chest has been aged to give it a weathered battlefield appearance.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% plus of a complete refurbished blued finish overall with only minor handling marks and light edge wear overall. The bakelite parts are also in very fine condition with only minor handling marks on the sides. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), Class 3, Fully Automatic Weapon, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
