Description:

This is an excellent original example of an late production WWI U.S. Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol that was manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1915. These pistols have a distinctive Springfield Armory dull blue finish and large diamond panels around the grip screws. The left side of the slide has the standard two block markings of: "PATENTED APR.20,1897/SEPT.9, 1902. DEC.19,1905.FEB.14, 1911/COLT'S PT. F.A.MFG.CO" in the first block followed by "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/U.S.A." in the second, with the Ordnance Corps shell and flame insignia, located behind the slide serrations. The right side of the slide has the traditional large "Springfield Eagle/Shield" located behind the ejection port and the front area is marked "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY." The left side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and above the magazine release button it is also stamped with the Ordnance Corps shell and flame insignia. The right side of the frame is stamped with serial number "No 127768" behind the slide stop pin hole. The barrel has a small "S" and "P" proofs on the left side of the barrel lug. It is equipped with a long checkered hammer spur, short horn on the grip safety, thick thumb safety lever and a flat mainspring housing with the lanyard loop on the underside. It comes with a correct two tone Springfield Armory magazine with the distinctive Springfield folded bottom and a lanyard loop on the magazine base.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall showing wear on the edge and high spots overall with blue loss on the front grip strap, the mainspring housing and grip safety. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on the sides showing a ding on the butt. Mechanically excellent. An excellent and difficult to find Springfield Armory produced U.S. M1911 Semi-Automatic pistol.
