Developed by Col. George Vincent Fosbery of Webley and Fosbery revolver fame. The Paradox was a popular model for use in the African and Indian colonies by Europeans as it allowed for versatility in loading. The majority of the barrel length is smooth as in a traditional shotgun, and the last approximate 2 inches of the barrels are rifled with a special "ratchet" style rifling allowing a solid projectile to catch the rifling as it swages through the choke. This combination allowed for hunting of both small and large game with out the need for a wide choked slug barrel. Fitted with a beaded blade front and single flip up rear express notch sights, 2 1/2 inch chambers, and chokes gauging at roughly improved cylinder. The receiver features light decorative border engraving, dual triggers, and an automatic thumb safety. Mounted on a multi-point checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap, inset silver initial oval, and checkered bare butt. The canvas covered takedown case features Holland & Holland labels on the inside of the lid, 2 ten round boxes (one full, one partial) Holland & Holland Paradox ammunition loaded with 740 grain Fosbery Bullets, 3 loose Western shells, two dummy rounds with no powder or primer, and case straps. Additional stock and barrel measurements are: bore diameter and 9 inches from breech .740/.741 inches; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .055/.054 inches; drop at comb 1 1/4 inches; drop at heel 1 inch; 1/4 inch toe out; 15 inch length of pull.

Very good with 95% of the refinished blue on the barrels and an aged mottled gray patina to the action. Displaying areas of pitting under the blue under the forearm, handling marks, markings buffed light, and spotting on the lower tang. The refinished wood is also very good with rich color, attractive grain, handling marks, light scuffs and scattered light indentations. Mechanically fine. The case is fair with tears in the outer canvas, cracking leather, and moderate staining on the interior.
