This beautifully engraved shotgun features a single white bead sight on the matte solid rib inscribed "FRANK R. MUSGROVE" with 2 1/2 inch chambers and full/full chokes. The underside of the barrels and lug are marked with a mix of post 1939 German proofs, the Suhl regional voluntary proof and a proof date code of "243" indicating proofing in February of 1943. The area of the top barrel between the breech and handguard features finely detailed semi-relief oak leaf and acorn engraving. The French gray frame features full coverage semi-relief oak leaf and acorn engraving with highly detailed game scenes on the sides of roe deer and pheasants on the right and European stag and ducks on the left. Each scene has its own independent background separated by the natural contours of the frame. The fine engraving continues onto the upper tang and break lever. The action features dual triggers with the front trigger acting as an adjustable set trigger, left side mounted safety lever, horn trigger guard, and cocking indicators. Mounted on a nicely figured, finely checkered forearm with engraved mounting hardware, and pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap, raised cheekpiece, sling swivel eyes, and a checkered horn buttplate. Includes a 24 1/2 inch combination barrel set with a solid rib, fixed blade front and two notch rear sights, and matching chamber area engraving and top rib inscription. The upper barrel is 16 gauge with a 2 1/2 inch chamber and full choke. The lower rifle barrel is chambered for 8x57mm rimmed ammunition. The combination barrels are numbered "695" with standard Nazi era proofs and a proof date of "243". The hardwood case has a red velvet interior with a "KARL BITTORF/HOFBUSCHENMAKER/SUHL, GERMANY" label. A copy of "The Book of Winchester Engraving" by R.L. Wilson is also included. Double barrel measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .666/.666 inches; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .042/.042 inches. Single barrel measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .667 inches; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .0415 inches. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 3/4 inches; 1/8 inch toe in; 14 inch length of pull.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus original blue finish. Displaying light handling marks, crisp markings, and some faint edge wear on the rib. The frame has an aged satin gray finish with light handling marks and light edge wear along the bottom edge. The wood is excellent with small handling marks throughout, attractive grain and figure, well defined checkering, and a few small indentations. Mechanically excellent. The extra barrel set is excellent with mostly light handling marks. The case is very good with storage and handling marks on the exterior and some small tears in the lining. The book is good with a torn dust jacket.
