Manufactured in early 1939. Red bead front and steel bead mid sights on the matte solid rib. 2 3/4 inch chambers, choked WS1 and WS2, with ejectors. The left side rear of the barrels is marked "WINCHESTER - 20 GAUGE/2 3/4 CHAM", the underside of the barrels are marked "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL", the left is marked "WS-2" and the right "WS-1". The barrel flats are marked with two Winchester oval proofs, the matching serial number and with the U.S. patent number. The underside of the receiver is marked "TRAP" just ahead of the trigger guard. The serial number is marked on the upper tang. The right side of the water table is marked with the three line patent numbers, and the left side is marked "MADE IN U.S.A. MODEL 21" of the two line address. The forearm hardware is marked with the matching serial number. Single trigger with gold selector button, tang mounted manual safety with gold "SAFE", blue finish, and mounted with a checkered beaver tail forearm and pistol grip stock with checkered flats, multi-point checkered wrist and checkered bare butt. The grip cap has a gold initial oval inscribed "D.C.M." Comes with a brown leather case with leather corner protectors and handle and wine colored felt lining. The lid of the case has an embossed "D.F.M.", and in the case is a two piece wooden cleaning rod, a bore mop, wire brush and nickel oiler. There are four holes around the initials on the lid in a pattern that would indicate there was a plaque in that location at one time, and under the handle is stamped "Abercrombie & Fitch Co./NEW YORK/MADE IN ENGLAND". The consignor's notes state that this shotgun was purchased by Royce G. Martin, President of Electric Autolite Co. 1934-1954 for his wife Doris F. Martin; however, there is no documentation to verify this. The barrel and stock measurements are as follows: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .612/.612 inches; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .044 inches; drop at comb1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 3/8 inches; cast and toe are neutral; 14 1/4 inch length of pull.

Rating Definition:

Near excellent with 90% original blue finish remaining. The breech end of the right barrel has been lightly cleaned where some spotting was. There is a small area of some very minor shallow pitting in the area. There is some mild edge wear and a small amount of spotting on the forearm knuckle. The wood is excellent with three noticeable scratches on the left side of the stock, a few small minor scratches on the left rear of the forearm and overall some minor handling marks. The checkering remains very crisp. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with some wear and scuffs on the exterior and some minor wear and staining on the lining.
