This pair of revolvers were manufactured in 1978 and come in a French fitted hardwood display case with a "FROM THE COLT CUSTOM GUN SHOP" label. The bright yellow Colt Custom Shop shipping labels list them as "MODEL P.1770-SPECIAL F010633" and confirm the carved grips. Factory burnt orange cases are inside. The revolver have mostly standard markings and features. The consecutive serial numbers are all matching, but neither revolver has assembly numbers. The underside of the grips have the matching serial numbers minus the "SA" portion. They also have "AJE/INDIA" and some numbers indicating the source of the material. The exterior of the grips have checkering and are carved with the Rampant Colt up top and a patriotic bald eagle and shield motif on the bottom. According to "The Post-War Colt Single-Action Revolver, 1976-1986" by Don Wilkerson, only 9% of the consecutive sets surveyed were chambered for .44 Special ammunition, and fewer still would have had anything but standard grips, let alone factory carved grips.
