Description:

This rifle was manufactured in the early 1880s and has been fitted with a checkered steel pistol grip extension fitted by replacing the screw at the rear of the lower tang with a longer one through the extension. These grips were designed to aid in long range shooting. The rifle has a pinned blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, standard Springfield markings, a nearly full length walnut stock with a circled "P" stamp at the bottom of the butt and a boxed "SWP/1881" cartouche on the left above the trigger, standard buttplate, and a slotted cleaning rod with button tip.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 90% plus of the original blue finish and case colors remain. There is some loss at the muzzle and on the grip extension and some light fading in other areas. The stock is also very fine and has some minor pressure marks and occasional scratches. The lock functions fine, and the markings are crisp.
