Description:

Only approximately 1,388 of "Forager" shotguns were manufactured in 1880-1884. They are the only shotguns ever manufactured by a U.S. arsenal. The Civil War rifle-musket barrels were shortened to 26 inches and reamed to 20 gauge. The stocks were also cut down and had their ramrod channels filled. This example has a correct two-click tumbler and is marked "1881" in italics on the breechblock and "681" near the upper tang.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The metal surfaces have mottled gray and brown patina and light pitting. The refinished breechblock is smoother and has a rubbed brown appearance. The stock has been re-oiled and has some dings and marks. The lock functions fine.
