Description:

Manufactured by an unknown company and attributed as a United States Navy experimental training weapon, this crank-fired, drum-fed repeater is built around a new-made brass frame with additional components taken from one or more Winchester rifles. The barrel and stock are Winchester components, the former fitted with a raised dovetailed front sight and machined and slotted up the final 4 1/2 inches to the breech to slot into the frame, where it rests in a sleeve patterned to resemble the cooling fins of a Hotchkiss gun, and the latter mounted to the frame with a metal bolt and retaining a curved flat steel buttplate. The frame is unmarked, nickel finished 60-round cartridge cylinder, spring loaded release knob and reversible crank handle. A fixed notch rear sight is installed on top of the frame, and a safety knob is installed on the side plate; the safety obstructs the hammer and no other components, allowing for both live and dry fire practice. The weapon is installed on a swiveling brass base pre-drilled for mounting bolts.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall. The barrel shows about half of the blue finish, with areas of spotting and brown patina. The frame and base retain around half of the blue paint finish, with some handling marks, light scuffs, and a well aged patina on the exposed brass. The stock is a bit oversized for the frame, with cracks at the wrist and mild scuffs. Mechanically functions fine.
