Manufactured circa late 1860s, this XL Number 4 revolver features a factory floral engraving on a dot background on the barrel flats, frame sides and cylinder chambers. The back strap features a double wire engraved pattern. The left barrel flat is marked with the two line address/patent date and the top strap is marked "XL. No. 4. N.Y." The barrel and cylinder are numbered to the gun. Blade front sight, frame notch rear sight, nickel finish with gold washed cylinder and smooth two-piece pearl grips. The case (manufactured by McCloskey-Grant Corp.) features a contrasting wood inlay on top of the lid and a XL No. 4 revolver advertisement affixed to the inside of the lid under glass. The inside of the case, which has a swatch of red velvet, is not cut for a revolver.

Very fine. The revolver retains 95% original nickel finish and 70% original gold wash with the balance a smooth dark patina. The grips are excellent with highly attractive color. Mechanically excellent. The modern custom case is very good with minor handling/storage marks overall.
