Less than 400 of these .41 caliber derringers are estimated to have been manufactured by the American Arms Co. in the 1860s and 1870s. This example is marked with the standard patent and address markings on the top of the barrels and has "41 CAL" stamped on the left side of the frame at the breech. The matching partial serial number "31" is on the barrels and front of the frame, and the full serial number is on the butt.

Very fine. The frame retains 95% of the original silver plating and has an attractive darkened aged patina throughout. The barrels retain 50% of the original blue and have dark brown patina on the balance. The trigger and hammer retain significant original case colors. The grips are very good and have some light scratches and minor dings. The action functions excellently, and the markings are crisp. This is a very scarce and desirable variation of the American Arms Co. double barrel .41 caliber derringer.
