Description:

Both of the included factory letters indicate this revolver was shipped originally with pearl grips, factory engraving, and nickel plating to J. F. Schmelzer & Son in Kansas City, Kansas, on November 7, 1893. The revolver currently is silver-plated, and the writer is confident that the factory applied the plating. The revolver has scroll, punch dot, and geometric engraving patterns on more than 50% of the metal surfaces. The patterns have similarities with revolvers identified in "The Book of Colt Engraving" as engraved by Cuno A. Helfricht and his shop. The revolver has standard markings. In addition, it has the following factory rework assembly number markings: "1079" on the bottom part of the loading gate; "1079" and "NN" on the barrel, ejector housing, front of the cylinder, and the left side of the grip straps; and a star on the right side rear of the trigger guard bow. It has the standard blade and notch sights, a dished ejector head, black powder style frame, bordered knurling on the hammer, and smooth mother of pearl grips. It comes with a modern hardwood case with a cartridge block for 39 cartridges (13 casings included) and a key.

Rating Definition:

Fine as factory replated. 85% plus of the silver plating remains. It displays varying degrees of tarnishing and has patches of mild pitting. The grips have some slight chipping at the junction with the frame and the heel and have minor aging from handling and storage. The action functions fine, and the engraving patterns are generally crisp. Some of the markings are partially obscured by the plating. The custom case is near mint with only some minor storage wear.
