Description:

The accompanying factory letter confirms the caliber and barrel length with hard rubber grips when it was shipped in the "soft" for engraving outside the factory. The revolver was shipped on August 3, 1888 to Schoverling Daly & Gales as part of a two gun shipment. The revolver features 95% coverage of a scroll and dot engraving. The two-line Hartford address is marked on top of the barrel inside a stylized double line and dot panel that loops around the front sight. The left side of the barrel has a blank panel once for the etched Colt Frontier Six Shooter marking. The top of the ejector rod housing has a zig-zag line engraving. The back strap has a blank engraved inscription panel, and the butt has a geometric engraving. The left side of the frame has the three-line, three-patent dates marking. The trigger guard is marked "44 CAL." Matching serial number on the frame and grip straps with loading gate un-numbered. Nickel plated and fitted with two piece smooth pearl grips.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver has an untouched smooth gray patina with limited traces of the nickel finish. The engraving is crisp. The grips are fine with a couple missing very small chips near the bottom. Mechanically functions fine, but is slightly out of time. An attractive Old West New York engraved black powder Colt SAA revolver!
