Description:

James Reid's Knuckle Dusters are among the most distinctive handguns of the late 19th century. These .22 caliber "My Friend" knuckle dusters were manufactured from the late 1860s to early 1880s. Around 10,690 were manufactured. Small .22 caliber pocket sized pistols were popular self-defense weapons in the late 19th century and the ability to flip the revolver around and use it as a brass knuckle if seven .22s didn't stop assailants was certainly a benefit. There is a groove across the top strap for sighting, but these guns would have been used at close range by pointing rather than taking deliberate aim. This example is in astounding condition and has attractive floral engraving patterns, standard model and patent markings, and matching serial numbers (partial on cylinder and pin).

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 90% plus of the frosted nickel plating remains, and the hammer and trigger have some faded case colors. The cylinder pin has worn and displays dark brown patina. The front of the frame has a series of strike marks, and some small patches of slight oxidation are on the cylinder. The action functions fine, and the markings and engraving patterns are crisp.
