Description:

This is a Colt Single Action Army revolver with very desirable "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" etched panel markings manufactured in 1889. The revolver is complete with a Colt factory letter that describes the features as: "Serial Number: 127325, Caliber: 44/40, Barrel Length: 5-1/2 inches, Finish: Blue", and "Type of Stocks: Rubber". The letter states that this revolver was shipped to M.F. Kennedy & Sons in St. Paul, Minnesota, on September 13, 1889. The revolver has the Colt commercial blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, hammer and loading gate are color casehardened. The revolver is fitted with checkered hard rubber grips embossed with the eagle and shield motif below the grip screw and the circled Rampant Colt trademark above it. Eagle and shield grips were standard between 1882 and 1896. The model designation "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" is acid etched in an oblong panel on the left side of the barrel and was manufactured in the rare to find 5-1/2 inch barrel. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." The caliber designation "44" is stamped on the underside of the barrel immediately in front of the frame. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt "three-date/three-line" patent markings. "44 CAL." is stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. The assembly number "145" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The serial number "127325" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver is all original and retains 85% plus of the bright original high polish blue and color casehardened finish overall. The blue finish on the back strap is thin, and the cylinder has turn marks between the stops and edge wear on the front and rear face. The balance of the blue finish shows light handling and storage wear. 80% plus of the casehardened finish is present on the frame, hammer and loading gate with strong case colors. The frame and grip screws retain nearly all of the fire blue finish. The hard rubber grips are in excellent condition with minimal wear. The delicate acid-etched "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" panel on the left side of the barrel is crisp and nearly complete. The barrel and frame markings are sharp. The action is fine. This is an excellent example of a Colt Single Action Army revolver with the very desirable combination of acid etched "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" markings and factory documented eagle and shield grips.
