Description:

The included factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length and finish with the type of stocks not listed. The revolver was shipped to Simmons Hardware Co. of St. Louis Missouri, on October 1, 1894, as part of a 5 gun shipment. The barrel is marked "41 COLT" on the left side and has the one-line address on top. The left side of the receiver has the two-line patent dates marking followed by a circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is found on the frame and grip straps. The assembly number "586" is on the loading gate. Fitted with checkered Rampant Colt embossed grips numbered to the gun. The leather holster has a belt hook and is marked "WYETH/HODW&MFG CO/ST JOSEPH." The included letter of provenance explains that the writer's great uncle, an owner of a hardware store in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, purchased this revolver for self protection. The hardware store owner later move to Douglas, Arizona, in 1917. Around this time northern Mexico was experiencing civil unrest with various factions, including Pancho Villa, fighting to control the government.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The frame and hammer retain 30% plus vivid original case colors. The oversize replacement grips are very good with some minor handling marks and some worn checkering. Mechanically excellent. The holster is good with missing stitching near the toe, some flaking and some flex wear.
