Description:

This exhibition quality Adams patent double action revolver features a beautiful floral scroll engraving on a punch dot background covering 95% of the metal surfaces and an exquisite relief carved lion's head grip. The top strap is signed "MANFD BY A.F. LICENSED BY/LEANE ADAMS & DEANE LONDON." The top barrel flat is marked "Fni PAR LE PAGE MOUTIER A PARIS." The right side of the frame is marked "ADAMS PATENT 7288" followed by a crown over "AF" proofmark. The left side of the frame is marked "ADAMS/1851/PATENT" inside an oval. The cylinder is marked with the serial number (7288) and a crown over "AF" proof mark. The engraved floral scrollwork executed by a period master engraver is featured on the frame, grip straps, trigger guard, and barrel with full coverage on the cylinder. Overall, the revolver appears to have been left in the white with nickel plated trigger guard and bobbed hammer and niter blue on some of the small components. The one piece grip exhibits a deep relief floral scroll carving on the sides and a carved open mouth lion's head on the butt which features jeweled eyes and silver teeth. The Le Page business remained in the control of the same family of gunmakers from 1717 until 1913 and manufactured some of the finest firearms in history including many pieces presented by royalty and world leaders. Le Page weapons won many awards at the famous mid-19th century Paris exhibitions. During its existence, the manufacturer traded under the name Pigny, Le Page, Le Page Moutier and Fauré Le Page. The name LePage Moutier came about in 1842 when Louis Moutier married into the family. The partitioned case has brass hardware, red wine felt lining, a blank circle initial plaque on the lid and a Le Page Moutier of Paris label on the inside of the lid. The case holds the following accessories: two cavity bullet mold, floral engraved ramrod, oiler and cap box, muzzle plug, case key, powder flask, and screwdriver and wrench.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver has a highly attractive bright appearance. The trigger guard and hammer retain 90% of the replated silver finish with light pitting visible under the plating. The grip is fine with a very attractive patina and a well defined carving. The action needs work as cylinder does not always turn when action is engaged. The refurbished relined case is fine showing minor handling/storage marks overall. The accessories are all very good as replated.
