This lot consists of two deep relief chiseled and relief carved stocked exhibition quality percussion pistols that were manufactured by Parisian gunsmith Gastinne-Renette. The firm of Gastinne-Renette began in the early 1800s and operated until the late 1980s. The firm provided arms and training opportunities for many of the what seemed to be daily duels in and around Paris. The company made guns for heads of France throughout its existence and was the place to buy arms, whether it be a sporting rifle for hunting, shotguns for the field, or dueling pistols. The top barrel flat on this pistol is signed "Gastinne-Renette a Paris." The barrel tang, breech plug, hammer, lock plate, lock plate escutcheon, barrel wedge, barrel wedge escutcheons, spur trigger guard and buttplate feature a beautifully executed deep relief floral scroll and floral blossom motif engraving. The lock plate is signed "Gastinne/Renette" under the hammer. The rifled octagon barrel has a fluted mid-section with near full coverage of floral scrollwork engraving on the non-fluted sections. The number "1" is engraved on the breech plug and barrel tang. Fitted with niter blue blade front and notch rear sights. Mounted with an ebony half stock with single barrel wedge. The grip area features full coverage of a high relief floral motif carving that compliments the engraving on the metal surfaces. The case has the "GASTINNE-RENETTE/PARIS" label embossed in gold on the inside of the deep purple velvet padded lid. The top of the lid has a triple line brass inlaid border and a large ornate inlaid monogrammed floral motif plaque. The case is lined in velvet and carries several accessories. These accessories include screwdriver, nipple wrench, mallet, percussion cap container, bullet mold with near full coverage of a deep relief floral engraving, ramrod, cleaning rod, silver Dixon & Sons powder flask and case key.

Very fine. The barrel retains 80% period refinished blue finish with the balance a smooth dark patina. The remaining metal surfaces have faded to an attractive smooth dull gray patina. The stock is also very fine showing very limited minor handling marks. The engraving and carving are crisp. Mechanically excellent. The refinished case is fine with a couple long cracks on the lid, some areas of chipping/cracking on the veneer, some minor handling marks and some high spot wear on the lining.

As describe in "A" but with the number "2" on the barrel tang and breech plug.
