Description:

Offered here is a pair of gold and silver inlaid percussion pistols manufactured by Kuchenreuter of Regensburg, Germany. The Kuchenreuter family of gunsmiths dates back to the 1700s. The top barrel flat is signed "I. KUCHENREUTER" in gold. At the breech is a deeply struck gold highlighted Kuchenreuter proof of a horse mounted cavalry officer and a silver inlaid band. Silver inlaid floral work appears on the upper left and right barrel flats at the rear and around the front sight. The front sight is fixed and the rear sight is adjustable (sight wrench included). The lock plate, lock plate escutcheons, hammer, spur trigger guard, barrel tang and breech plug have a semi-relief floral scroll engraving with gold inlaid accents. The breech plug has a gold inlaid number "1." A gold star burst appears on the bolster. The lock plate has a gold inlaid scene of a man wrestling a lion behind the hammer and "IN REGENSBURG" around the hammer. The fish engraved hammer has gold eyes and silver teeth. A gold inlaid soldier is featured on the trigger guard. Equipped with a set trigger and 3-click hammer. The half length stock features a relief carved dog head on the forend tip and extensive relief carved floral motif incorporating a grotesque head on the grip area. The single barrel wedge has silver escutcheons. The butt is flare and has an ornate engraved cap featuring gold inlaid accents. The case is lined in purple velvet and has German silver corner protectors and ornate engraved inlays on the lid. The case holds a set of reloading tools (includes bullet mold, wad cutter, powder flask, ramrod, powder measure, capper), pick, two screwdrivers, nipple wrench, two extra percussion nipples and oiler.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 85% of the Damascus pattern. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The stock is fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent. The case is good with detached lid, some missing hardware and faded worn lining. Some of the silver inlay on the lid are loose.
