The top of the barrel is marked "LONDON," and the area ahead of the trigger guard is marked "FREEMAN" along with two London proofs ("crown/V" and "crown/P"). James Freeman was a London gunsmith circa 1738 to 1756. The screw-on, smooth bore barrel has a cannon muzzle. The pistol has a light border engraving, which is found on most of the iron components. A bow and arrow motif is engraved on the trigger guard. The silver thumb escutcheon has a relief grotesque mask and a faint engraving. The silver buttcap is a cast grotesque mask. The silver lock plate escutcheon is a relief cut-out of a bird-like mythical creature. The walnut stock has a relief floral scroll craving around the barrel tang; otherwise, the stock is smooth.

Fair. The pistol has a left in the bright appearance with minor light pitting overall. The frame has a hairline stress crack behind the hammer. The markings are clear. The silver is fine. The wood is fair showing a couple of cracks, one of which on top left, and some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically fine.
