Description:

Manufactured in the early to mid 1800s in Munich, likely for a gentleman in fancy dress. 34 1/4 inches in overall length, with a 29 3/4 inch straight single fuller blade with niter blue and gold wash on the lower quarter, with wire etched motifs including crowns and the letter "M" in fancy script. The hilt is silver plated and finely sculpted, with a reclining dragon on the languet, a silver and blue portepee, lion's head pommel, a crowned "M" on the pearl grip, and laurel sculpting on the grip straps. Both the portepee and crowned "M" design bear the diamond pattern markings associated with Bavaria, with the "M" possibly suggesting King Maximilian I Joseph or Maximilian II. The scabbard is black leather with silver finished brass components, showing fine and deep floral carving on the tip and throat and "Stroblberger/in Munchen" on the back of the throat.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall. The blade shows some light spotting, with over 75% of the original blue and gold, and the hilt shows a fine patina on both silver and brass, with mild wear on the portepee. The scabbard shows wear and cracking on the leather, as well as some looseness in the throat.
