This is an exceptionally nice example of a Swiss 1906/20 Commercial Luger with the very rare "Abercrombie and Fitch Co." barrel markings. These early Swiss 1906/20 model Lugers were intended for sale in Switzerland; however, with the early demand Luger in the U.S., the DWM factory diverted a small quantity of their production to their U.S. agent, Abercrombie & Fitch Co. in New York. At this time, they were the largest retailer of hunting and outdoor sporting equipment in the U.S. Interestingly, the case contains a small brass name plate that reads: "Herbert Wasserman". Herbert Wasserman was the father of Lew Wasserman, who at one time was one of the most successful theatrical agents in the United States. During his career, he represented over 700 stage and movie actors and actresses, including Ingrid Bergman, Alan Ladd, Ronald Reagan, and Jimmy Stewart to name a few. He has also been credited with encouraging and assisting Ronald Reagan in getting his start in politics. This Luger has the early, short frame, the 1906 style grip safety, no stock lug and is marked "GELADEN" on the extractor. It also has the unaltered, first pattern safety with the lower polished safety area on the frame. The chamber is marked with the Swiss Cross in a sunburst and a "DWM" marked front toggle. The top center section of the barrel is marked "ABERCROMBIE & FITCH Co NEW YORK/MADE IN SWITZERLAND". The front of the frame, left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel are all stamped with serial number "5332". The barrel is also stamped with the intertwined "BP" proofmark from the Bern factory. It has the "crown/N" commercial proof on the right side of the barrel extension and breech bolt. It comes with two correct Swiss nickel-plated magazines with unmarked wooden bases. The pistol has a rust blue finish with straw colored small components and checkered walnut grips. It also comes with a custom black leatherette covered storage case that has a green felt interior with a large label inside the lid that is marked: "ABERCROMBIE & FITCH CO./SPORTING GOODS STORE/MADISON AVE, AT 45TH STREET, NEW YORK". The case contains the spare magazine, a box of .30 Caliber Luger cartridges, a brass cleaning rod with the steel oiler/handle, a Swiss marked takedown tool, and brass cleaning kit with the screwdriver tip, a brass jag, and bore brush.

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish overall with a hint of edge wear. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice, distinct checkering on both sides, showing a few minor handling marks on the left side and some incomplete checkering along the front edge of the right grip. The custom case and various accessories are all in fine condition. An excellent example of a scarce retailer marked Swiss 06/20 Luger set.
