Description:

This FN Browning semi-automatic pistol has design characteristics that make it a transitional pistol or a trial pistol ordered by the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia in 1929). The FN Model 1922 was specifically designed for the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The long time Serbian military contractor FN was chosen to provide the newly formed independent state an affordable small arm. FN provided trial pistols that were essentially modified Model 1910s. The 1910 slide and frame were kept while adding a longer barrel with a machined barrel lug. Trial pistols also included examples with extended frames, which are smaller than the frame found on production Model 1922s. Total number of trial pistols manufactured by FN remains unknown. The trials were so successful that the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ordered 60,000 pistols, which became the Model 1922. This pistol has a small frame, shorter slide, longer barrel lug and fewer slide serrations when compared to production Model 1922s. The serial number is marked on the right side of the frame and the left side of the frame is marked with Belgian proofs that are repeated on the left side of the slide under the two line FN/Browning patent marking. The barrel is marked with various Belgian proofs including the Liege ELG proof and the caliber designation. The left side of the trigger guard has "FN" inside an oval. The barrel lug also has Belgian proofs. Note that the barrel lug has a locking system that is on the underside and the frame is fitted with an ambidextrous safety, again features that are not found on standard production Model 1922s. The grips are checkered with the "FN" logo at the top. The back of the left grip has the number "19" and the back of the right grip has the number "24." With the pistol is a drop holster. The inside of the holster is hand marked in ink "KRAUS/[illegible].

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The pistol retains 95% original blue finish showing some minor thinning and some minor high edge wear. The grips are also very fine with overall crisp checkering. The slide stop does not function, otherwise action cycles. The holster is very good with age cracking on the flap and minor handling marks.
