Description:

This is a beautiful example of a SS inscribed Walther factory engraved cased presentation grade Walther Model PP pistol. This exquisite pistol was engraved using a non-traditional, very diminutive scroll pattern accented by several floral patterns at the end of each engraved block. The engraving covers virtually all the exposed metal surfaces of the pistol, which was then gold-plated by the Walther factory. The pistol has been fitted with a set of Walther factory inscribed "SS" presentation ivory grips. The left grip has a small gold-plated presentation plate that reads: "Unserem/S.S. Oberfuhrer Pflomm/von Fuhrer Korps/der 57. S.S. Standarte/28.3.1934". Which loosely translates to: "To Our SS Oberführer Pflomm of Leadership Corps of the 57th S.S. Standard 03/28/1934." The Fuhrer Korp was a training ground for early SS members, many of whom rose to senior positions in the SS by the time the war ended. Karl Pflomm was an early SS member who joined the Nazi party circa 1929, who rose through the various leadership positions and associated ranks. He was the SS-Sturmbannführer of the 13, S.S. Standarte from 19 Mar 1931 - 21 Mar 1932 and in December 1934, he was appointed to the Thuringian State. On 20 April 1936, he was promoted to SS Brigade Commander and from March 1936 to the end of Nazi rule in spring 1945, Pflomm sat as representative of the constituency 12 (Thuringia) in the Nazi Reichstag. The pistol is an early pattern that has the 90 degree safety which has also been engraved. The markings on the left side of the slide have all been framed or outlined in an engraved panel with the noted scroll engraving going right up to the edge of the panels. The markings are; the Walther Banner, the two-line factory address/patent markings of "Waffenfabrik Walther, Zella-Mehlis (Thur)/Walther's Patent Cal 7.65mm" followed by "MOD PP". The right side of the frame and slide have the "eagle/N" Nazi commercial proofmarks located on the right side of the barrel and directly below that on the slide below the ejection port. The serial number is marked vertically on the right side of the frame (800957). This Walther pistol falls well within the serial number range of numerous other pre-war engraved Walther pistols as shown and documented in the reference book, "WALTHER VOLUME II- Engraved, Presentation and Standard Models" by James L. Rankin. This exquisite pistol comes with the original Walther presentation case, with the green felt lining with the dark brown simulated leather outer covering and is complete with one extra Walther marked, gold-plated PP magazine, and original steel cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 70% of the original Walther factory gold-plated finish still remaining over the nickel base plating, nearly all intact, with case wear visible on the high spots. The engraving is in excellent condition. The grips are in fine condition with a nice slight yellowing on the sides with four stress cracks starting to lift upward and separate at the corners of the inscription panel. Mechanically excellent. The presentation case is in fine condition with the outside showing only minor scuffs around the corners and edges. The inside green felt material is still intact and is only showing minor wear around the edges.
