Description:

This is an extremely rare Gustloff-Werke experimental semi-automatic pistol in the rare 9 mm Kurz caliber. This example is the only one known to exist in this caliber, and it's patterned after the earlier Gustloff-Werkes experimental pistol that was designed circa 1938/39 under the direction of Fritz Sauckel, Gauleiter of Thuringia. It has a simple blow-back design like the earlier model except this example has a steel frame with mostly stamped internal parts. It is very similar to the Sauer Mod. 38 pistol with an internal hammer design. It is reported that approximately 100 examples of the earlier experimental pistol (in 7.65 m/m) were manufactured, and as noted, this is the only known 9mm Kurz example. The pistol is void of a serial number and any factory acceptance proofs, except for a single "crown/N" proofmark on the right rear side of the pistol with the magazine being numbered "3" on the lower right side. The top of the slide has a raised/matted sight rib with a blade front sight and drift adjustable rear sight. There is a large single lever mounted on the left side of the grip which is a simple safety lever that blocks the trigger from actually releasing the internal hammer. It is fitted with one raised checkered walnut grip on the left side with a checkered black plastic grip on the right side, with neither one being numbered. There is a small frame mounted push button magazine release. The pistol has a flared front grip strap and corresponding magazine floor plate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of a dull blue with nice straight edges and sides. The grips are also in very fine condition with a few pressure dents and excellent checkering. This is certainly a very rare early Gustloff-Werkes prototype pistol in the desirable 9 mm Kurz caliber.
