Description:

This is a nice example of a mid-WWII Japanese Type 99 sniper rifle that was manufactured at the Toriimatsu factory under Nagoya Arsenal. It is complete with an original WWII Japanese 4x sniper scope. The rifle has the standard Type 99 adjustable tangent rear sight with the peep sight without the folding anti-aircraft wings. It is graduated from 3-15 (300-1500 meters) with the inverted "v" front sight with guards. The chrysanthemum on top of the receiver ring remains, but it has been lightly struck three times across the face of the mum. The Japanese Kanji markings for Type 99 are still complete. The rear receiver ring has the Nagoya Arsenal stamp over serial number (4098). It has a set of unnumbered barrel bands with the lower barrel band still retaining an original folding monopod. It has a matching bolt and cocking knob with an unnumbered firing pin. It has the mid-war style stock with finger grooves on the side, a single drain hole in front of the trigger guard with the side mounted sling swivels and a cupped steel buttplate. The rifle is fitted with an original WWII, non-matching Japanese 4x internally adjustable scope that is marked on front portion of the tube: "4X7 (degrees) No. 10323" with Japanese markings on the lower left side of the scope base. The rear locking plate is stamped with number "2813". The scope has the grid pattern crosshair that is calibrated 4-14 (400-1400 meters) elevation below the center line with 20 degrees wind deflection on either side. It also comes with an original web/canvas sling and a brass muzzle cover.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% of the blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear, the bolt showing blue loss from cycling the action, which has browned out overall, and some thinning on the trigger guard bow. The stock is in good plus condition with the typical heavier handling marks, scratches and light dents from use and carrying. The stock appears to have been broken through the wrist area but has been nicely reglued, and the stock and handguard have an extra coat of varnish overall, which is also on some areas of the metal. The scope retains 90% of its black painted finish showing minor flaking and loss of the painted finish on the underside of the objective lens with a line of residue on the left side of he tube. The optics are fine but a little hazy.
