Description:

This is a very fine example of a standard commercial Model 1896 Mauser Bolo pistol. This pistol has the smaller bolo style frame with the small grips and small ring hammer with a matching combination wooden shoulder stock/holster. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N", and the serial number is on the right side of the chamber area. The right side of the frame is stamped with the two-line markings of: "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/OBERNDORF A. NECKAR". It has the shorter length barrel with the banded front sight with a fixed front sight blade and an adjustable rear sights graduated from 50-500 meters. There is a double "crown/U" commercial proof on the left side of the chamber area and the rear flat of the bolt. It is fitted with a set of gutta percha grips with the floral designs on the side. It is complete with matching last three digit walnut shoulder stock/holster. It is possible that this is from a post-war variant with the same last three digits as in this serial range they usually have the full serial number. The attaching iron is correct stamped with the last three digits of the serial number. It has a rust blued finish with a straw colored trigger and heat blued smaller parts.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the blue finish overall, only minor edge and high spot wear, and the grip straps showing a gray/brown patina finish overall. The smaller parts retain 75% of their heat blued finish with 75% of the straw colors on the trigger. The grips are in fine condition with nice, distinct designs on the sides, a chip on the upper back side of the right grip, and some minor damage around the right grip screw escutcheons. The lightly sanded, reoiled stock is in good condition overall with a dull finish on the stock itself, minimal handling marks on the sides, and the metal parts showing 40% blue overall with the balance a dull dark blue/gray patina finish. It has visible matching serial numbers to include the stock iron. A very fine example of a Mauser Model 1896 Bolo pistol.
