This is an example of a DWM Model 1900 French contract commercial Luger pistol. The roll markings on top of the barrel reads: "Manufacture Francaise d" Armes & Cycles de Saint-Etienne". It is estimated that a small quantity were produced for a promotional sales; however no large order ever materialized due to the uneasy hostilities between France and Germany. It is estimated that few were actually produced, with only a handful actually seen or known today. The Model 1900 Luger was the true first commercial contract Luger pistol manufactured by DWM and are found in the 2000-20000 serial number range. These pistols were specifically intended for sales throughout Europe as well as Germany. It has the standard DWM markings on the front toggle with the blank chamber area. This pistol has all the early features, such as the dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch fast tapered barrel, grip safety, and no stock lug. The lower safety area on the frame has the bright polished, unmarked typical of early issue first model Lugers. It is correctly serial numbered in the commercial fashion with the serial number (9213) stamped under the barrel and on the front of the frame, with the last two digits (13) on the various parts. These early Lugers have superb hand fitted parts with a beautiful pre-war high polish rust blued finish with the straw colored small parts with checkered walnut grips. It is complete with one magazine, the nickel plated body, and the unnumbered wooden base with no proofmarks.

Very good with 85% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss and slight browning in the middle and lower areas of the grip straps. The smaller parts retain 70% of their refurbished straw colors overall. The grips are in very good condition overall with nice distinct checkering on both sides, with the left side having the checkering refreshened slightly. It has matching numbered on the various parts.
