Originally manufactured in 1916 as a military Luger, this pistol was custom converted into a "carbine" configuration. No documentation is available, but conversions of this nature are known to have been done by custom gunsmiths, who could re-fit standard Luger pistols into Artillery, Navy or Carbine styles on special order. Blade front and 3-position notch rear sights on the long unmarked barrel, with a "1916" chamber stamp and a DWM toggle. The extension and breechblock have military proofs, with a "crown/N" commercial proof on the front toggle link. A finely checkered forearm is installed on a hanger on the frame (note: neither the barrel or forearm is equipped with a recoil booster assembly), with sharp grips, nickel finished magazine with a blank wood base, and a checkered buttstock with an unnumbered iron and a serrated buttplate.

Fine as professionally custom built, with 98% of the quality rust blue finish, showing some light handling marks overall and mild sub-surface pin prick pitting. Some of the components are unnumbered, and others may be restamped to match. The small parts show over 80% of a "bronze" tone straw finish, with some bright areas. The custom wood is very fine, with crisp checkering, a few minor dents, and attractive grain. Mechanically excellent.
