Description:

The only markings and engraving on this rifle is on the lock where it has a bird, floral designs, and "C. ROBBINS". The rifle has two empty front sight dovetails, a fixed notch rear sight, and a third empty dovetail at the breech suggesting the rifle was once mounted with a full length scope. The barrel is wedge fastened. The frizzen spring has a notched roller. The full length stock has brass furniture aside from the German silver crescent moon on the shallow cheekpiece. An extra long ramrod is included. Robbins is listed as a lock maker and gunmaker in Tioga (Pennsylvania or New York) and appears to have remained active at least as late as the 1870s when he was producing shotguns. He is also known to have manufactured pistols similar to the design of the U.S. Model 1826.

Rating Definition:

Fair with period and modern alterations. The barrel and lock have dark brown patina and mild pitting and oxidation. The brass has a dark patina throughout. The stock is fair and has a period repair at the wrist with nail fastened brass plate, sections of the upper edges of the forend absent, a repair above the lock, crack between the trigger guard and entry pipe, and areas of attractive figure. The lock is functional.
