Type: Shotgun
Gauge: 10
Barrel: 54 1/2 inch round
Finish: brown
Grip:
Stock: maple
Item Views: 1186
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 110
Class: Antique
Description:

This massive piece is marked "T. T. BEHR" on the bottom of the large military style lock just below the frizzen spring and has a blade front sight that aligns with a groove at the breech for sighting. Though the initials appear to be "T .T.", the bottoms likely are simply cut off and are actually J's for Johann Jacob Behr of Maastricht or Liege in the late 17th century until around 1740. The stock has beautiful flame figure along the forend, brass furniture including a thumb plate, a large butt with sharp comb, and raised floral carving behind the ramrod entry pipe, rear of the trigger guard, and breech, and flats.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel and lock have deep brown patina with mostly light pitting overall. The breech end of the barrel has heavy pitting, and the lock has some oxidation. The brass components have mostly an attractive aged patina. The refinished stock is good and has chipping around the lock inlay, beautiful flame figure, a piece absent at the toe, and hairline cracks along the back of the butt. The lock is not functional. The signature is crisp.
