Description:

This is an excellent example of a desirable early WWII Model 1941 Johnson semi-automatic rifle. These rifles were originally designed by Melvin Johnson and competed against the M1 Garand rifle in the late 1930s. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the USMC acquired many of these rifles as a war expedient measure from the Netherlands Purchasing Commission and later used them in some of the early Japanese island hopping campaigns. They were eventually replaced by the Army adopted M1 Garand rifle. They had several unique features 1) they had a quickly removable barrel which was useful for Marine Paratroopers and Marine Raiders, 2) they had a 10 shot rotary magazine which could be quickly loaded with the five round stripper clips or single rounds in between battles to top off the magazine unlike the M1 where you had to eject the entire clip and reload a new clip. The top of the receiver is marked with the four line, Johnson Automatics model markings, caliber and company address over serial number "B7449". The barrel is marked on the front of the barrel support "30-06/41" with "J.A./30-06" over the chamber area. The barrel extension and barrel are both stamped with stamped with "3456K", followed by a Johnson Arms acceptance/firing proof. The bolt is stamped with the number "C1503". The right side of the rear sight is stamped "METERS" with "M2" stamped on the left side. It is fitted with its original two-piece walnut forend and buttstock with a checkered steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 98% of the original wartime light green parkerized finish, minor edge and high spot wear, and some very minor thinning of the finish around the bayonet lug area. The rear sight still retains its original blued factory finish. The forend and buttstock are both in excellent condition with nice medium brown walnut color overall, showing some minor scratches on the rear sides of the buttstock. An exceptional Johnson Model 1941 rifle.
