Description:

This impressive three barrel set custom engraved and gold inlaid Westley Richards Model 1897 falling block rifle was featured in "Gun Digest 2002." The engraving was done by Jim White of Anchorage, Alaska. The raised gold inlay on this rifle is 18 carat. The stock maker was Robert Johnson of Wyoming. The action, upper tang, trigger guard and lever have beautiful scroll engraving on a matte background. The engraving is accented with gold inlays on the receiver and lever sides. The serial number is in gold. The sides of the receiver have semi-relief gold inlaid game heads (a big horn ram on the right, a pronghorn on the left). The marker's marking ("WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co./LONDON") is in gold on the left side of the receiver. The maker's marking is flush with the metal surfaces. The manual tang safety has "SAFE" in gold and the patent number "409" marking. Mounted with a highly figured American walnut pistol grip stock featuring checkering, cheekpiece, sling swivel stud, metal grip cap and finely checkered steel buttplate. Each 27 inch long barrel has its own matching, highly figured, checkered American walnut forearm, machined aluminum breech protection caps engraved with caliber and serial number and are fitted with adjustable locking collars to insure a tight fit at the action. The barrels are also numbered to the gun (serial number in gold) and feature an engraved and gold wire inlaid sling swivel stud, double gold inlaid bands at the muzzle and caliber marking in gold. The forearms attach to the barrels by a single screw. The .35 Whelen barrel features a quarter rib with adjustable rear sight signed "R.E. JENKINS" on the side of the base and a ramp hooded front sight, all featuring scrollwork and gold wire inlays. An extra sight hood is included. The .280 Ack. Imp. Barrel is without sights and is fitted with a Pentax 6-18x scope with duplex reticle. The scope mount and rings are scroll engraved and accented with gold wire inlays. The smooth bore .410 Forage barrel is fitted with a ventilated rib and double bead sights and has three choke tubes and a caliber die, all numbered to the gun. Complete with the following accessories: oiler, 3-piece cleaning rod, 2-piece cleaning rod, choke wrench, powder measure, barrel installation spanner, and Allen wrench, all engraved and numbered to the gun. A Red Head case is also included.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom built and embellished. The action retains nearly 97% of the high polish custom blue finish showing areas of gray patina on the trigger guard tang. The buttstock is near mint with very few minor handling marks. The checkering is crisp. The barrels retain nearly all of the high polish custom blue finish showing some assembly marks. The forearms are also near mint with a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The scope has clear optics. Mechanically excellent.
