This is an example of a pre-war Colt Match Super 38 semi-automatic pistol manufactured in 1934. These Super Match pistols were manufactured in sequence with the standard Colt 38 Supers, except they featured a hand honed action and adjustable Stevens rear sights (standard front and rear sight could also be ordered). Approximately 5,000 of these special higher grade, target pistols were produced in total. The right side of the slide is marked "MATCH/COLT SUPER .38/AUTOMATIC" followed by the Rampant Colt motif. The barrel is marked "SUPER 38 AUTO" above the lug on the left side, and there is also an "M.B." inside a circle below this marking. The opposite side of the slide has two line Colt's address markings above their 1897-1913 patent dates. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked with a small "X" over the Colt "VP" verified proof and the right side is marked "60". It has the fixed front sight with serrated face and added Stevens adjustable rear sight, blue barrel with polished chamber, checkered slide lock, checkered trigger, checkered thumb safety, and checkered arched main spring housing, along with a Colt wide spur checkered hammer. Fitted with smooth mother of pearl grips. Includes a two-tone magazine marked "COLT SUPER/38 AUTO" on the base plate.

Very fine as modified. 97% plus original blue finish remains with light traces of edge wear near the muzzle, handling marks, and a few small nicks in the front grip strap. The Stevens rear sight and corresponding front sight were added to the slide at a later date. The grips are very fine non-factory replacements with minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
