Manufactured form 1884 to 1891. Fitted with a globe windage front sight and a tang mounted Vernier mid-range peep sight. There are no provisions for a rear sight or scope blocks. The top barrel flat is marked "32-40" at the breech. The frame has the serial number on the underside and two line Marlin address/Ballard patent marking on the left side. The barrel is numbered to the gun (serial number under the forearm). Mounted with a checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and nickel plated Swiss buttplate.

Fine. The barrel retains 70% thinned original blue finish. The action retains traces of original case colors in the protected areas with the balance a mixture of silvered out case colors and smooth gray patina. The wood is very fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Overall the checkering is crisp. The buttplate retains 70% original nickel finish. Mechanically fine.
