Description:

Only 276 .38 Winchester (38-40) Double Action First Model revolvers were manufactured by Smith & Wesson in 1900-1910. They are based on the .44 Double Action Frontier and differ only in the caliber they are chambered for. This example is number 14 and has been fitted with target sights in place of the simpler standard sights. It is marked with the two-line address and patent marking on the rib, "38 WINCHESTER CTG" on the left side of the barrel, the S&W trademark on the left side of the frame, and matching serial numbers except for grips which are renumbered to match.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 95% plus of the period, possibly factory refinished blue finish remains. There is some slight fading on the cylinder and some light storage marks. The hammer retains 80% of the refurbished case colors, and the trigger guard and trigger are plum brown. The replacement grips are also very fine and have crisp checkering and slight handling marks and fading. Mechanically excellent and the markings are crisp.
