Manufactured in 1936, this is an extremely fine example of an exceptionally rare factory engraved Winchester Model 54 rifle. This rifle is illustrated on page 34 in the book "The Rifleman's Rifle" by Roger C. Rule. This rifle is pictured with the consecutively serial numbered (48205A) and also factory engraved rifle. The muzzle and breech end of the barrel, receiver, trigger guard and floor plate are light scroll engraved. The left rear of the barrel is marked "-WINCHESTER/PROOF STEEL-MODEL 54-WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK- 30GOV'T '06-". The left side wall of the receiver is marked "WINCHESTER", and the right front of the receiver is marked with the serial number. Hooded ramped front sight and receiver mounted rear peep sight. There are no provisions for rear sights on the barrel, and the top front of the receiver is factory drilled and tapped for sight/scope mounting. All blue finish, polished bolt assembly with checkered knob and mounted with a Class 4 special order multi-point checkered walnut pistol grip stock with contrasting forend, engraved metal grip cap, cheek piece, checkered metal buttplate and leather military style sling mounted with quick release sling swivels.

Extremely fine. The rifle retains 85% plus original blue finish with a few tiny areas of minor oxidation and a small area of minor pitting on the barrel. There is some minor flaking and wear on the trigger guard. The side of the rear sight shows some pitting. The stock is also excellent a small area of crazing on the buttstock, a few minor dings and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. An extremely rare special order factory engraved Winchester Model 54 bolt action rifle. We cannot recall ever having offered one of these!
