Description:

Manufactured by the firm of Johann Springer of Vienna, Austria. The Springer firm has been in the business of fine sporting arms since its establishment in 1857 and is to this day a premier purveyor of fine arms and sporting equipment kept within the Springer family line. The Springer firm was known as a "Kuk Purveyor" or holder of a Kuk Hoflieferantentitel, giving them rights to sell to members of the imperial court and use the title in their advertising. This rifle is fitted with a fixed beaded blade front on a finely matted ramp and two leaf (one standing, one folding) rear notch sights on the solid raised rib. The top of the rib is marked "JOH. SPRINGER'S ERBEN KuKHOFuKAMMER GEWEHR FABRIKANTEN IN WIEN" with wedges of fine English style rose and scroll engraving at the chamber area. The underside of the barrel features standard Austrian proofs and the serial number. The casehardened, sculpted scalloped, box lock receiver features near full coverage fine English style rose and scroll engraving with the maker's marks inscribed on the bottom. Features a square cross bolt, manual thumb safety, double set triggers, spur trigger guard, and cocking indicator. Mounted on a finely checkered splinter forend with engraved Anson style hardware numbered to the gun, pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap, distinctive 18th century flintlock style flat bottom, raised cheekpiece, and an engraved steel buttplate with trap. Length of pull is 13 3/4 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 95% plus original blue finish on the barrel, crisp markings, light edge wear, handling marks, and some scattered light spotting. The receiver has 80% of the original case colors with fine engraving, handling marks, mild edge wear, and clear markings. The wood is very good with very attractive dark figure, handling wear in the checkering, and small indentations throughout. The buttplate has a mottled gray/brown patina. Mechanically excellent.
