The assisted opening action features a near full coverage of a scroll and floral bouquet engraving with the side plates marked "J. PURDEY & SONS" and the underside marked "J. PURDEY & SONS/LONDON." The scrollwork extends to the trigger guard, break lever, manual tang safety and forearm hardware. The water table is marked with the number "1", two "crown/V" proof and two "crown/BNP" proofs. The break lever is also engraved with the number "1". The forearm is numbered to the gun and also has the number "1." Mounted with a high figured and multi-checkered forearm and straight grip stock. A leather covered recoil pad is fitted to the buttstock, which has a blank silver initial oval on the underside. Additional barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .737/.739 inches; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .0415/.0405 inches; drop at comb 1 3/8 inches; drop at heel 2 1/4 inches; cast off 1/4"; toe out 1/2"; length of pull 14 3/8 inches; weight 6.2 lbs. Includes a two-piece cleaning rod with attachments and case key. The accompanying letter of provenance from a pervious owner states that the shotgun was manufactured around 1926-1927 and the 25 inch barrels are original with the chambers changed from 2 5/8 inches to 2 3/4 inches.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrels retain 95% blue finish showing loss at the muzzle and some wear from the leather hand guard. The action retains traces of original case colors, otherwise a bright gray. The trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware retain 90% original blue finish. The wood is very fine showing a minor crack on the forearm (right rear), a couple very small stress cracks near the tangs, and some very scattered minor handing marks with a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. The case is very fine with some minor handling/storage marks.
