This finely engraved German double features a single brass bead on the solid matte rib barrels with 2 3/4 inch chambers, ejectors, and full/full chokes. The left barrel is inscribed "G.A. NOTHNAGEL, SUHL" just forward of the breech. Each barrel has a two inch wedge of delicate, tight scroll engraving forward of the breech. The receiver is engraved in highly elaborate, detailed floral scroll designs with relief carved oak leaf and acorn themed fences. The lock plates feature incredibly detailed semi-relief engraved wild game scenes of a fox hunting ducks on the right with a detailed forested marsh background, and a hunting dog stalking pheasants in an equally detailed forested field scene. The left lock plate is marked "ORIG. HOLLAND-HOLLAND" in a banner above the dog. The tangs, and break lever are also highly engraved in flowing scroll. The trigger guard features three birds in a forest scene. The barrel flats and water table have standard post-war German commercial proofs and matching serial numbers on the water table, barrel flats, and forearm hardware. Mounted on a finely checkered beavertail forearm and straight grip stock with scalloped line borders and a skip-line checkered bare butt. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .725/.725 inches; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .0475 inches; drop at comb 1 3/8 inches; drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; 14 1/8 inches.

Rating Definition:

Excellent 97% plus original blue finish remains on the barrels with scattered small handling marks and traces of pin point spotting. The receiver and side plate engraving is sharp with light handling marks, fine detail, and some light marks on the screw heads. The wood is very good with handling marks, attractive figure, crisp checkering, and scattered small indentations on the buttstock. Mechanically excellent.
