Introduced in 1903, the 600 Nitro Express holds the distinction of being the largest round introduced during the heyday of the African big-game hunting, putting a 900 grain bullet on a 3 inch case loaded with 120 grains of Cordite; any creature that walks the Earth has cause to fear the 600, even the top tier African dangerous game. This Westley Richards was manufactured around 1924 to 1926 and is every bit the classic "elephant gun", a massive yet beautiful demonstration of the English gun craft, which would traditionally be taken up by the hunter when the moment of truth was close at hand, either with the quarry in sight or in the deep brush where a wrong turn may bring them much too close for comfort with some of the most lethal animals on land. A silver wire inlaid three-leaf express sight is installed on the quarter rib, with a fixed 100 yard leaf and folding 200 and 300 yard leaves, with fine scroll engraving on the doll-head rib, "Westley Richards & Co London" in the lower portion of the rib, and more engraving near the front sight, which is fitted with a fixed polished bead, a flip-up white bead, and a hinged engraved sun shield/sight protector, giving the shooter a variety of options in response to lighting conditions and other environmental factors. The right chamber is marked "For 600 High Velocity Cartridge 3 Inch Case" and the left chamber "110 Grs Powder 900 Gr Bullet", with light border engraving at the breech and appropriate proof and inspection marks on the underside. The receiver is finished in a rich casehardening with vibrant colors and decorated with over 90% coverage scroll engraving, with "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO." in gold on each side, "SAFE" in gold on a nitre blue field, floral engraved screws and jeweled drop lock internal components, which have matching serial numbers and assembly numbers. The stock is constructed from extra fancy walnut, with diamond-bordered checkering on the forearm and wrist, contrasting horn tip insert, engraved hardware, and a thick, leather covered recoil pad. Engraved steel pistol grip cap with trap. Included with the rifle is a leather covered, red felt lined, Westley Richards tagged transport case, which holds the rifle and the following included accessories: a cased pair of pre-fitted spare drop locks numbered to match the rifle, a box of five 600 Nitro Express cartridges, five nickel finished oil/parts containers, two horn-handled screwdrivers, a takedown cleaning rod with wooden handle, brown leather sling, loose sling eye and a nickel funnel.

Very fine as professionally restored, with 98% of the factory quality blue finish, showing a few light streaks on the barrels and mild edge wear with a deep rich blue overall. The case colors are bright and vivid on over 95% of the frame, with sharp detail in all engraving. The wood is also very fine, with crisp checkering and attractive grain overall, a few light spots on the forearm, and a bit of cracking on the edges of the leather pad. Mild dings and scuffs appropriate to age and light use are present on the case, with all accessories in good order. Mechanically excellent.
