Item Views: 1397

Catalog Page: 184
Class: Curio & Relic Handgun
Description:

Manufactured in 1957 and subsequently custom engraved and gold inlaid. This is a unique opportunity to obtain two consecutively serialized Colt Government Model pistols that were originally included in the same factory shipment and now feature matching embellishments. Nearly 95% of the pistol is covered in a scroll engraving on a matte background. Gold scroll inlay that is flush with the metal surface is featured on the slide at the rear and on the underside. Semi-relief gold inlays are featured on the slide. These inlays depict a cowboy on horseback lassoing a rampant horse on the left side and a hunter on horseback chasing down a buffalo on the right side. Each side of the slide has a triangle gold inlay at the muzzle. The pistol has a blue barrel with jeweled chamber marked "SERVICE MATCH." The serrated trigger and hammer sides are also jeweled. The trigger guard has the Roman numeral "I" inside a circle in gold. The slide markings have been replaced by the engraving. The serial number is in gold on the right side of the frame. The pistol is unsigned. The all blue magazine is marked "COLT/.45 AUTO." Fitted with Sid Bell silver grips featuring scrollwork at the top and bottom and raised relief images of an eagle/shield (left side) and buffalo (right side). The included factory letter states that this pistol was part of a 35 gun shipment sent to Firearms International Corp. of Washington, D.C. on January 16, 1958. The "B" gun of this lot (serial number 281235C), which is consecutively serialized to this gun, was also part of the shipment (not shipped as a consecutively serialized pair). Both pistols were featured on the cover of "Guns & Ammo," February 1960. Note that the pistols now have different grips. The cover, which is in a frame, is included.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally period custom embellished. The pistol retains 98% plus of the blue finish showing only the slightest handling marks. The grips are excellent. The action functions but slide is packed with grease.
