Manufactured from 1907 to 1915 within the serial number range 1 to 15,375. This outstanding revolver is the .44 Hand Ejector with the very desirable triple lock mechanism. Most S&W experts are of the opinion that the triple lock mechanism was more an expression of the ultimate in precision machine work than as a necessity for strength and function. Smith & Wesson's normal two locks provided more locking strength than their competitor Colt. The revolver is equipped with fixed sights, a round blade front sight with the top strap grooved for sighting. It has the desirable 6 1/2 inch barrel, smooth grip straps, checkered hammer, checkered cylinder latch and smooth trigger. The barrel is marked with the two line S&W address/patent date marking on the top flanked by Maltese crosses and "44 S&W SPECIAL CTG" is marked on the left side. The S&W trademark is stamped on the right side plate of the 5-screw frame. The barrel, cylinder and frame are all matching (2821) and the frame and crane have matching assembly number "169." "23" is stamped on left top frame strap under grip, quite possibly the date of return to factory. Casehardened hammer and trigger and fitted with checkered diamond pattern walnut grips with a square butt and featuring the S&W monogram medallion in the stock circles.

Very fine as factory refinished. The revolver retains 98% plus high polished blue finish showing a pronounced cylinder drag line and a few minor handling marks. The caliber and barrel address markings are light. Light pitting is visible under blue on right side plate. The hammer and trigger retain half of the case colors, otherwise faded to a gray. The grips are very good showing a small surface chip on the left panel at the top and some minor handling marks (mostly on the bottoms) with overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
