Description:

The factory letter confirms the caliber, 26 inch octagon barrel and takedown feature. The rifle was shipped on October 13, 1894. The barrel is equipped with a beaded blade front sight and adjustable rear sporting sight. The top barrel flat is marked "-MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW-HAVEN CT. U.S.A.-/PATENTED OCT. 11,1887, APRIL 2, 1889, AUGUST 1,1893" directly ahead of the rear sight and "38-55" at the breech. The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY", the upper tang "MODEL /1893" and the serial number is marked on the bottom front of the frame. Blue finished barrel and full length magazine with the remaining metal surfaces casehardened. Mounted with a nicely figured smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with steel forend cap and steel crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored. The barrel and magazine retain 95% rust blue finish showing some mild thinning. The remaining metal surfaces retain 97% case colors. There are a couple patches of minor pitting on the buttplate. The revarnished wood is also very fine showing a few minor handling marks.
