Manufactured in 1923 in the highly desirable 405 WCF caliber. Fitted with a Lyman blade front sight and an express leaf rear sight marked 1 through 4 on a barrel stamped with the two-line nickel steel information followed by "405 W.C.F." at the breech. The Winchester factory oval proof is present on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model/trademark information. The top of the barrel at the breech is professionally inscribed "RUTLAM" (the Indian city Ratlam), and the left side of the receiver is marked in script with the "Manton & Co. Calcutta" retailer marking above the two-line address/patent information. The retailer markings suggest that this 405 WCF caliber rifle made its way to India for big game hunting. The chamber is inscribed with the number "14." Mounted with a smooth forearm with ebony insert and straight grip stock with checkered steel buttplate.

Very good. The rifle retains 30% original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The underside of the barrel has two drilled holes towards the muzzle. The wood is fair with some chipping near the stock toe and some minor handling marks mixed with a few moderate pressure dents. Mechanically excellent.
