Description:

Manufactured originally in 1863 as a percussion revolver and later converted on contract for the U.S. government to cartridge at the Colt factory. The matching serial number is marked on the trigger guard and back strap while the matching conversion number "1030" is marked on the lever plug, barrel (twice), frame, trigger guard, back strap, breech plate and loading gate. The left side of the barrel lug is marked "U.S.," and there is an "A" inspector mark visible on the left side of the barrel and trigger guard. Blade front and fixed notch rear sights, and the one line New York address on top of the barrel. Iron back strap cut for a stock and fitted with a smooth, one piece varnished grip. This revolver is one of approximately 1000 converted at the Colt factory in 1871 for the U.S. government.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The metal surfaces have a dark patina with a number of minor dings and some minor pitting on the lower frame sides. The trigger guard shows exposed "mustard yellow" aged brass, remaining relatively bright. The grip is also fair with moderate wear on the lower edges, a small chip on each toe, a small chip on the left side at the juncture of the trigger guard, and overall minor dents and dings. The ejector rod head is a crudely made replacement. The cylinder scene and markings and frame markings are not visible, with the exception of the back strap serial number (faint), the remaining markings are clear. The action is fine. These U.S. Richards Colt 1860 Revolvers saw extensive use in the Indian Wars and are seldom encountered in any condition.
